John Anderson

John was born and schooled in Denver ,Colorado. At the age of 5 he began experiencing the beautiful Gunnison area on family Summer vacations. His father graduated farm Western State in 1983 and transferred his love of the area to John. John caught his first trout on a fly rod in 1989 in the Gunnison River and went on to identify the local trophy trout hot spots. His personal best on the Gunnison River was a 10 pound, 26 inch Rainbow. John’s largest lifetime trout was an 18 pound rainbow caught in Jurassic Park, Colorado. John became a certified fly fishing guide in 2000 and is known for helping his clients find and net trophy trout. John has been an elk hunter all of his life and is currently the Manager of a 4,000 acre ranch on Ohio Creek. He was the Colorado state Champion in Westling.

Spencer Caleb Hemker

Spencer is from Plattesville, Colorado where he took up fly fishing at the age of 13 following a casting class on his way to becoming an Eagle Scout. He moved to Gunnison to attend Western State Colege of Colorado in the pursuit of a degree in Wild Life Biology. The year 2013 will see the completion of his studies with his goal of becoming a Division of Wild Life Game Warden or to perform consulting work for stream improvement. He loves to channel his passion for fly fishing here in Gunnison by training and guiding beginners, including women, to the same respect for the sport of fly fishing that he possesses. He is also experienced in ice fishing, rock climbing, and, enjoys hiking to remote fly fishing spots.

Nicholas Rzyska-Filipek

Nick moved to the Gunnison area from Boulder, Colorado in order to attend Western State College of Colorado. He graduated with a degree in Wild Life Biology in 2011. Nick began fly fishing at the age of 11 and attended a Trouts Unlimited Youth Camp at the age of 16. He has since served as a volunteer Trouts Unlimited Camp Counselor in both Aspen, Colorado and on the Blue River in Kremmling, Colorado. Nick's forte is casting for which he won the Accuracy Award in the Fly Fishing Casting Competition during the White Water Festival in Gunnison, Colorado. Nick's goal is to work with fresh water maintenance, entomology and trout studies. Nick enjoys working with beginners, including women. Nick hobbies include skiing, chess and hiking.

T.J. Curry

T.J.is originally from Kansas, but moved with his family to Crested Butte, Colorado when he was 8 years old. His falther is a custom fly rod builder in Crested Butte, Colorado and passed on his skills to T.J., who currently designs and builds custom fly rods in Gunnison, Colorado.
T.J. is a junior at Gunnison High School and plans to attend Western State College of Colorado to pursue a degree in Biology. He is Colorado State Cross Country Mountain Bike Champion and has been invited to compete nationally.

Logan M. Borland

Logan is from Shreveport, Louisiana, moving to Denver, Colorado at the age of 10. Every summer since 1921 his family has resided at Vickers Ranch in Lake City, Colorado where his fly fishing expertise was fostered at Lake Fork while learning from such greats as Dan Hall (owner of the oldest fly shop in Colorado), Perk Vicar and Art Zimm "who trained him to perfect his cast for hours". Logan is a classically trained gun smith from the Colorado School of Trades in Lakewood, Colorado. He has worked for Umpqa Feather Merchants and managed their warehouse for fly tying. His favorite fishing spots include Big Black Foot in Montana and Lake Fork in Colorado. He has also fished in Minnesota, Wyoming, Idaho, Utah and Oregan. He is an experienced guide and will head up many of the fly tying classes offered by Gunnison River Fly Shop. Logan has also worked for an ambluance service and is BCS trained.
